Car shipping advice?

I am considering purchasing another 220d from another forum member, but they are not located near me. Given my current schedule and vehicle condition, it is not likely that I can fly to their location and then drive the car home. So I am trying to learn about the process of shipping a car via a vehicle transport company.

If you have any experience with this, could you share any advice you might have for a successful transfer? Prices appear to be around $900 for an open truck or $1300 for a closed truck. Am I missing an easier/cheaper way to move a car from TX to CA? Thanks for your help.

My 1987 300TD wagon was sold and my 2003 W210 E320 wagon was totaled (sheds tear).

Uship is interesting and I have used them dozens of times. If you are using USHIP
1. Put no brokers in your ad.
2. Check their DOT Number and make sure the names match.
3. If you award the bid get a cell phone number for the driver.
4. Look at their rating (like Ebay)
5. Some have Cargo insurance Some don't You decide
6. Go online and fill out a Uniform Bill of Lading from a template. Use that to transport vehicle not drivers Bill of Lading which may contain bad language not favorable to you.
7. Write your ad carefully spelling out what you expect to be done and when.

Good advice. I had my 240D shipped from Mississippi to Delaware in August and it was effortless only because my wife's employer handled all of the details. DAS was the company they used and they did a good job getting the car here in one piece.

uship

I've used uship a few times; just be sure you are NOT dealing with a broker. I look for the owner/driver that has one truck.

I've used uship and had mixed results. Certainly the cheapest, but the first guy I used was awful...6 hours late, unprofessional, nearly dropped my car off the trailer. Second guy was excellent and a fantastic experience. Make sure you take the reviews seriously.

I shipped a car from CA to TN. No problem. It was picked up and delivered. It is less expensive if it will start and drive on & of the truck.
