Wooo hooooo!

I just love honest people!

I ran a lost ad in Craigs list up in the Minneapolis area and this morning a trucker called me. He has my fender! Now I have to figure out how to get it back.

It was a little funny. He started giving me the 20 questions to be sure it was really mine!;)

Oops!

I've had two more conversations with him now and I am afraid he might actually not have my fender and is trying to scam me.

We'll just have to wait and see how this turns out.

Can't be a scam. After all, you read it on the internet. They don't let people post stuff that isn't true on the internet. Right?

Seriously, LOTS of vendors carry a seat rebuilding kit that includes foam and cotton ticking and wire to tie broken springs together. Even replacement springs are available. Not a difficult job as the final form is determined by the top covering. Even if you get it wrong, you can stuff extra foam or cotton around as needed before the final hog ringing of the cover to the frame.
You, or a local upholstery shop should be able to use the old cover as a pattern for a new version. You pick the material to look as much like the original as possible, or as different as you want.

The spent a lot more $$ on details like that horn button than would be allowed by today's cost-conscious managers.

By the way, does it have a heater run of the cooling system, a gas powered heater, or none?
I can give you some advice/ information about the gas-powered ones that may save you some trouble and expense down the road if you need it

The heater that came with the truck is an ordinary hot water one with a small blower. I'll want ac so will probably end up with some combination unit. Perhaps a vintageair unit.

I wouldn't ever consider jacking with a southwind gasoline heater--or buy one at a swap meet for $5. They are pos's If i had a corvair ide figure out another setup.

As far as the interior acessories , my mandatoy list is the yankee 960 deco turn signal switch , a nice custom banjo wheel-(that I might have to fab) and the firestone type V deco heater-im also moulding a carbon fibre dash panel.-You want a Deco heater to go inthe 30's truck!

I sat in the coupe express today. I was planning to change the steering column but in looking at the factory one the horn button is so dang cool I may have to keep the lethal POS.;)

The seating position was very nice although it looks like it could not be by the apparent angle of the seat to the back. The view out the rather small and laid back windshield definately looks like a chopped and channeled 3 window coupe!:P

pics of the steering wheel???

I think your picture is of a 37 coupe express. Straight ahead I believe would have had the third spoke down like in my picture I believe.

i am attaching pictures of a 38 or 39 coupe express (not sure which) and a horn button pic which I believe corresponds to what I have.

I really dig the red button. I am pretty sure it was designed by Raymond Lowey's studio. The wood grain dash looks hokey to me. thankfully mine is just tan paint wich seems fine to me.

I really like the funky floor shift lever too but sadly I don't think I can use it on the tranny I am being pushed toward due to circumstances. The tranny I probably will use is an overdrive equipped tranny which presently has a column shift. I can probably get a floor shift conversion and perhaps I can get it to look like this one.

Actually a Southwind can be a very good heater IFF...
If you get ALL the parts--which never happens with the $5 flea market purchase. You need the carb pipe and the most important piece is the little choke tube that bubbles air thru the gas and vaporizes it on its way to the heater. Heater can't burn liquid gas. Then there is the condition of the firebox and the heat exchanger area.
When operating properly, they do put out copious amounts of heat--maybe too much.

The water heaters are safer, and don't take a bite out of the gas mileage.

the whole idea of a finicky gasoline fired something under the dash with --uh flame --is not something I would ever consider, BTW i definately dont mean to sould like im pulling a Know It All Put On here !!!

t walgamuth 12-22-2012 09:10 PM

I have never though those gas fired heaters sounded too good, and I can remember when the air cooled vw and corvair were new (well almost on the vw)....new here anyhow!;)
