I have not heard of it but there is a fellow on the stude forum with vette front suspension on his stude.

I'm going up to south bend this Friday/Saturday for a big stude gathering.

A Big Stud Gathering?

STUDE.

Some of us are studs though, I hear.

I found some ultra type 61 that weigh 16.8# so I may go with them. They are aluminum so I could paint them or run full moon discs with them.

With a solid rear axle, 2.2 pounds difference for each rear wheel is virtually no difference.

It is 16.8 vs over 30#.

The original wheels are not an option because of their condition.

Even with that much weight difference it wouldn't have much relative effect on suspension resiliency. It would, however, add some unwanted flywheel effect to the drive wheels.

the heavy axle and wheels of my 3/4 ton Dodge make it ride rough as a cob unless I have at least 500# in back. Loaded down it rides like a Caddy.....unsprung to sprung weight ratio is everything.

I expect to be switching the center section of the Ford 9" out to aluminum once I figure out what final drive ratio is optimal.

I just got back from two days in south bend at the big Studebaker swap meet. I bought some gauges to use in my truck....and a few other odds and ends.

My buddy called me yesterday and told me about this:

Studebaker : Champ standard in Studebaker | eBay Motors

Fun! I'd be interested if not for the truck I already have.

My race car fabricator called and said the ford rear end is under the 39 stude CE now along with the Koni shocks. Says it looks like it grew there (or words to that effect).

Next thing I need to figure out is the front brakes.

Nah! Front brakes are for sissies. Ya got a front bumper and a horn don'cha?:P

The model T didn't have front brakes and it was just fine. Will you be adapting calipers?

Air&Road 05-13-2013 10:21 AM

Yeah, what was the top speed and weight of a Model T?

I would determine what front brake system you plan to use before committing to wheel diameter and a specific rim, as rotor size and caliper shape and size will have an influence on those factors. Any idea how much the completed vehicle will weigh?
