That is a nice rendering. Mine will look similar in the body. I might go with the three slashes on the hood back to mid cab but prolly not the rest of the two tone stuff. My truck will not be lowered nearly that much, perhaps about 2" at most and will carry stock smooth bumpers.

The grills and headlights are stock in this rendering and will most likely remain so on mine as well. The grills on mine are all a bit rusty and weigh at least 10# each so I am tempted to fabricate duplicates from thin aluminum. I like the look but the weight really grates this old autocrosser.

Thanks for putting this up!;)

Tom - I just spent much of last week with the yellow Coupe Express street rod that you've probably seen in Studebaker enthusiast mags. It's owned by a guy named Jeff who lives in GA. He worked with my buddy David and I to remove the old roll cage and fab a new one in the Burke Bros/Parris Avanti, a famous LSR car (chassis #6). Anyhow, the Coupe Express is amazing though it has a SBC in it right now but Jeff is building a Stude for it.

The neat thing about Jeff's car is that it's DRIVEN - no magazine queen there!

Dan

Yes, Jeff is a real enthusiast. I am well aquainted with him from the Stude forum. His truck is pretty cool (though I would never run a visor over the windshield myself).

I communicate with him regularly and bought a pair of bumpers from him. He builds special aluminum manifolds for studes and is a very very skilled person.

He said that the visor was on it when he got the car and that he has mixed feelings about it. Jeff will likely post some of the pics from the cage build on the Stude forum and I posted some on <Bangshift.com> if you're interested.

The Stude manifolds are really nice pieces. He went to the trouble to build jigs to keep everything aligned as needed.

That is a sweet rendering and sweet looking graphics! I might use it on mine with Main body beige grey, small stripes orange or brown and the second dark color chocolate brown.

Not much happening with the truck.

I happened across the attached when looking through some old car mags and thought you might enjoy the writeup.

Thanks Charlie! I like the graphics. It appears to be a stock body. Not much happening at present. My fabricator has gotten busy with racing work I think.

charliebob 04-22-2014 05:57 PM

I'm also having trouble with my fabricator .... namely, me!!

Here are the headlight reflectors I got back yesterday.....polished and nickel plated. They'll get new halogen bulbs to go with the stock lense and trim.

Dan Stokes 05-08-2014 08:39 AM

That should be a nice improvement. Looks good (and shiny!).

Today my h4 conversion came for the headlights. There are no assembly intstructions and I cannot figure out how it goes together. Anybody know? Got it from speedway motor parts

If I may ask, where did you get the reflectors plated and polished? I have some vintage lights I pulled off a derelict crane (long story) and the reflectors are quite dull. Would love to get them spiffed up.

Industrial plating here in Lafayette. It is nickel not chrome plating (which may have been original). It cost $180 for the two. It seems a bit expensive but the original headlights look so cool and simple I could not come up with any alternatives that satisfied my sense of the way it should look.

Today I cruised over to Anderson and looked in on the progress on the truck. They are priming inside the truck, window trim and dash etc. He has mounted the fuse box and is running wire to the ends of the truck. I dropped off the instruments and the headlights. I picked up the rest of the glass and will be getting it made new here in Lafayette. They are planning to get the truck in the paint booth next week.

The car in the paint booth today was a TVR tuscan.
