That's too bad. I was looking forward to seeing some fine wood work in there. I love wood...but it will look great as you describe it.

Yeah, I am not confident that I could have pulled it off. The top edge of the door card instead of being straight across as it is in the sedan wraps up around the curved corner of the window on the rear edges and I was not certain what I could do with the raw edge of the plywood.

What we are planning will be functional but not much aesthetically.

Here is a modified CE which I might try to emulate the stance of. I'll be using bumpers though and prolly cannot get this low with good drivability.

Pretty but maybe a bit too low. Those are SUCH pretty trucks!

They are aren't they?

I sold the original motor from the CE this week to a gentleman in the Cleveland area. As a part of the deal he brought me a pair of mirrors from thirties packards which mount on the door hinges. they look pretty good to me. He also brought me new chains for the tailgate. He builds them for sale, also builds tailgates and the front panels of the bed and the apron beneath the bed in back.

I am getting antsy to see the truck all together.;)

I've been a little busy doing income producing work so have not pushed Michael. He has been busy too so the truck has been sitting for a couple of months or so. I have attached pics of the mirrors I scored this week.

Dan Stokes 12-19-2014 11:40 AM

Those mirrors should be excellent! Is the spread of the yoke right for the CE or will these take some customization?

And now you know why I do my own body and paint work. Besides, I can't afford pro work.

I was told the yoke will fit. I'll have to give it a try though and perhaps after that I will get them re-chromed.

I am better at making money than doing hands on work now. When I was younger (up to about 55 or so) I did a lot of hands on car stuff. Had lots of energy then and not much money with five kids to raise up, get through college and marry off!;)

I never did welding or machine work but pulled plenty of engines and trannies, rebuilt a couple (unsuccessfully) and replaced some gears in transmissions (trannies are pretty intimidating).

Great news! I heard from Bob who I bought my CE from that he found the instrument "glass". I am very excited as this may allow me to use the original instrument cluster. My current plan of using after market gauges has not really gelled as I wished it would.

Lense: any idea how to get cleanest without damaging the Lucite?

P.C. 01-15-2015 08:13 PM

Are the numbers/letters molded-in or merely applied onto a flat surface?

ROLLGUY 01-15-2015 08:18 PM

I imagine the outside could be polished just like polishing acrylic plastic, but only if the printing is on the inside.
