Shifter pattern question

I have a 300Sd that I have converted to a manual. It has worked great but I have a shift pattern problem I'm not sure how to fix. I replaced the transmission with another 4 speed since I had worn out the first one. The first transmission had a shift pattern where reverse was to the left and UP. The transmission I put in this weekend has reverse to the left and DOWN.
Is there anyway I can use this shifter or do I need to get a different one all together?
