I already have a "project car" as listed on STD.com.

It was the PO who listed this as a possibility, not me, but then again any car enjoys this possibility, so not sure what that offer really was.

Plus, why would I buy two cars from someone 675 miles away ? It was purchased primarily for the Getrag 717.400 and that is what I got currently, although with its own set of issues.

LOL.

Need to find the push broom this evening and clean up my driveway. :P Can't wait to get home to hear the wife yell at me.

Mercedes-Benz : 300-Series CD in Mercedes-Benz | eBay Motors

Might be a good transplant candidate for your drivetrain if you head in that direction?

No offense, but I feel like you didn't read the sale ad too carefully. Yeah the car has issues, but you are constantly implying that you got swindled in this deal, without actually saying it.

The sale ad mentions the fuel gauge, the rust, the transmission issues, even lists several threads that discuss the car in depth as he worked through his own issues. Im not sure what you really wanted, its as if you expected a car in pristine condition, yet he even flat out says in his sale ad that he was going to use this as a drivetrain donor for a rust free body.

The rust is worse than you expected, but the rust is ALWAYS worse than expected, and no one forced you to fly out and buy the car off him without a way to back out of the deal and get home if the car failed an in person inspection.

The ad repeatedly calls the car a donor, yet you are angry that the rust is bad and the car is dangerous. Its confusing from an outside standpoint, looking at the sale ad, I see a lot of issues mentioned and a pretty clear description of a rare drivetrain in a car that the owner himself considers ready for retirement.

Basically, I don't see why you are surprised and upset that the car is what it is, because its pretty much what he described. He forgot to mention a few things like the trunk lock, but **** happens. He did accept an offer more than a thousand less than his asking price.

wow! I love the wheels on that car!
he could transplant the manual climate control from his 240 into this CD and have a GREAT car...

what would be of paramount concern to me is the compression readings. On STD, you say they were a spread between 300 and 330 psi?

my info says that minimum compression would be 217 psi, and decent health engine being between 350 and 430 psi. Can someone verify this?

Still, since they are all very close in readings, id be considering grabbing another gauge or having a second opinion on the compression first before writing off the engine as tired.
