Question 1990 350 SDL tranny problem

The excitement never ends. I was going to rebuild the tranny on my 350 SDL a few months ago but got side tracked with other things. 400 miles from home almost got tangled up in a three semi truck accident but avoided the rear of the last truck with some fancy driving. A five foot miss is as good as a mile, right? Anyway pulled into the West VA welcome center to clean my drawers. When I came out and jumped in the car to get back on I- 81 the tranny would not shift from 2nd to 3rd. Reverse still works. Drove at 20 mph to next exit and found a garage. Put the car on a hoist and dropped the pan, pulled the valve body off. Manually worked levers etc. no sign of any debris in pan. However the fluid was extremely hot but the intake and return lines to cooler where not hot at all. This makes me think the oil pump may have problems. Why would panic maneuvers and stop cause this? Or just coincidence? All you expert tranny guys, any ideas about this? If I need to take a trip to Pull-A-Part, what year and model trannys could replace this? Any other ideas?

it sounds like the governor, and 2nd oil pump are jammed up somehow, you can access this by taking the tail housing off or the 2nd oil pump
