Pick & Pull Yard Excusion (8/20/2008) Loads of Picks

[Second day (8-21-2008) of searching added: http://s284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-21-2008/]

Went to two of Crazy Ray’s pick & pull yards (http://www.crazyraysautoparts.com/). I did not find much of what I was interested in, but I did see a few things that members here may want to seriously consider. These cars will not remain there forever; they are regularly moved.

I could only find three Mercedes at the 8125 Washington Blvd., Jessup, Mayland, location. They were all way in the back (see picture: http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/Jessupcars.jpg )

1985 300D with an apparently complete Euro blue velour interior. The only damage I saw to it was the top of the rear seat. All the rest looked fine: no rips, wears, or tears; just a little faded. I put the bottom seat in the trunk. It would be a shame to see it go to the crusher. It also should have the 2.88 differential (see pictures: http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1668.jpg ; http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1669.jpg ; http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1670.jpg ; http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1671.jpg ; http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1672.jpg ; http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1673.jpg ; http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1674.jpg ; http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1677.jpg ; http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1679.jpg ) The material appears browner in the pictures that it really it. The windows have a heavy tint on them.

1976 350SE with an apparently complete Euro brown plaid cloth interior. I saw no damage (see pictures: http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1682.jpg ; http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1683.jpg ; http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1684.jpg ; http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1685.jpg ; http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1686.jpg ; http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1687.jpg ). It would also be a shame for that to go to the crusher.

2001 [corrected to 1991] W124 with nothing significant to it (see pictures: http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1680.jpg ; http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1681.jpg )

There were plenty of Mercedes at the 2801 Hawkins Point Rd., Baltimore, Maryland, location ( http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/Baltimorecars.jpg ).

1985 300D. It should have the 2.88 differential. (See pictures: http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1693.jpg ; http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1694.jpg ; http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1696.jpg )

1990 560SEL. ( http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1706.jpg ) It should have the 2.45 differential with anti-slip ( http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1707.jpg ). Here is the VIN, WDBCA39E0LA545512 ( http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1708.jpg ; http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1709.jpg ), which you can check on the Russian VIN cite: http://old.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/?lng=eng The back glass looks clear with no delamination.

1989 260E (see picture: http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1688.jpg )

1992 300E (fugly wheels) (see picture: http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-20-2008/100_1689.jpg )

Too bad I am not local! I would love to have the manual window cranks and regulators from the 1976 350SE! Wouldn't mind having the manual heater assembly, especially if it is the one dial type. I've been looking for these parts for a while.

Another day, another yards & Loads more pic's: http://s284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/Pick%20and%20Pull%208-21-2008/ (over 60)

This one was at Crazy Ray's Mt. Airy, Maryland location.

Loads of W201s, a few W124s, a single W115, W116 (1875), and W123 (1985) each, and two W126s (1981 & 1983).

Nothing significant: just parts. I did pick up another 80 Amp alternator out of a Saab 900 Turbo.

FYI- Cameras are on the no no list @ Crazy Rays. (especially the jessup location.) I had an experience there. Just something to be aware of.

I never noted any restriction on it. It could have been buried away in the sign-in sheet, but they would be pretty hard pressed to hold someone for not having read that.

I told the guy running the entrance at the Mt. Airy location I had a camera and he did not express any concern about it.

Did they tell you what was the problem with it in your experience?

I gotten quite a few PMs asking if I will be returning to any other these yards, and could I please pull this that or the other parts. Unfortunately I do not intend to go back anytime soon. I don't mean to sound rude, but those couple of days were just for fun (real vacation after vacation with the kids), and I've really got to focus on work now. Sorry.

Actually they are forbidden in yards everywhere in California too.

They are very strict about it, too: your toolbox, and bags get searched going IN and OUT of every yard.

Also, I have found my experiences and results enhanced greatly if I ONLY spoke Spanish in the yards in SO CAL. Worked like a charm.

It also made me feel also like I was beholding our country's future, frankly...

it was several years ago, and it was a 'doze ain't allowed' situation.

Actually, they have changed the page, it no longer says 'no cameras'

With the prevalence of cellphone cameras that restriction almost seems unenforceable. The yards would be pretty hard pressed to conduct searches of cellphone memories for pictures which could have been taken anywhere and that could have already been electronically transmitted by the time the user leaves. It could be that Crazy Ray's just gave up on the idea. What is the harm in a picture after all?

You were looking at the SRS airbag expiration date.....its a '91 W124

I wish our yards had that many MB's! (well, I do and I don't )

All we have is a rusted out '77 240d (VERY rusted) and a 1988 190e 2.6, both in bad shape
