Pre-Chamber Problems

What are the failure modes of the pre-chambers in a 617.951 engine? What symptoms are presented?

I've seen the ball inside the pre-chamber break loose.

Is there any way to determine if the ball pin is damaged without removing the pre-chamber?

I am experiencing a different combustion noise that doesn't sound like normal Diesel rap. It has gotten louder gradually

Remove the Injector and get a very stong beamed Flashlight and look inside.
You might need to remove the Glow Plug to see it or have room.

Make a hooked shaped Tool and hook on to the Ball Pin and see if it moves around.

The red Arrow points to the Ball Pin.

The tip sticking into the cylinder can get damaged, but I haven't heard of it yet. The result could be that the cylinder wall will be damaged (lack of compression) or that the diesel combustion will not be ideal, that can usually be heard (ticking or other diesel noises).
