How do I reconnect dash vent hose?

On my 83 240D, the HVAC hose that goes to the drivers side vent has become detached; it's slipped back into the dash a bit and the plastic part on the outside (that enables one to control air flow) has come off.

How does it reattach? Thanks.

There is a wavy metal retaining ring on the back of the vent that holds it into the dash. Your's must have fallen off or broken. And the vent hose just slips onto the back of the vent. You'll have to take off the under dash panel to get in there to put thing back together. If just the front part came off vent, it clips back on or goes on and turns slightly to lock it into place. You'll have to remove it to get it back together. Which would involve removing the metal retaining ring on the back side of the dash.

You may be able to get the tube on if you pull the glove box.

Ooops, sorry, I was thinking center vent.

OP said driver side, might be able to reach it by pulling the cluster.

The eyeball clips into the dash from behind, there are 4 clips about the perimeter of the back half of the frame. The front frame goes in from the front of the dash and the dash hole becomes sandwiched between the two halves.

The hose goes on the neck on the back half of the frame. There is a u-shaped clip that secures the hose onto the frame. I suppose a zip tie would suffice if the clip is gone.

Actually, I described it incorrectly. The thing that adjusts air flow is still attached to the tube....it's the outer piece of plastic and the wavy ring that have become detached. But the descriptions should still help me put it back together....thanks.

Just remembered on the 123 go at it from the speaker hole. Easier than the cluster.

It's a twist lock. Push, twist, lock.

The cluster can be removed by reaching up from underneath and just pushing. Forgot my cluster puller last yard trip and reaching up works very easily.
