Glowplug adventure
Happy Holidays my diesel buddies had a little glow plug adventure recently. After an ongoing issue of hard starts cold or warm weather I finally started work on replacing the glow plugs. After replacing the glow plugs I immediately noticed quicker starts! I was tempted to remove or adjust the alda but I felt I was in deep enough with my throttle and manifold off and decided not to touch it. I saw the number 1 valve had alot of gunk on it I dumped some liqui moly engine flush and tried to clean it with a toothbrush! I actually did that on all the valves. After all the plugs were installed I was relieved to see the GP light come on at the turn on the key and the car start at first crank! It also has less smoke at startups. Injector replacements are next. take care keep the diesels going!

Find the fuel milage you are getting before replacing the injectors unless there is another reason to do so. On these older cars they might have been changed out or recalibrated and checked at some time in the not too long distant past.
All my injectors on average appear to be still pretty decent. If they have been out and checked over the years I have no ideal. Mercedes recommends they be checked about every 100k. With a little luck they are done at least the once anyways when some other owner had the car. If performance and fuel milage are still good with no excess smoking etc or nailing issues I tend to leave them alone. |
