W126 wheels on a W123 ?

Hello all, I could use a quick answer as I prepare to travel.
The car I was planning to drive out of town this weekend is not going to be fixed in time. I can take my W123, but it will need a couple new tires, something I had planned to do in a couple months. I have a set of new tires on my W126 (1986). I am curious if I could get away with a wheel/tire swap for the purpose of my journey. It is raining here at the moment, so rather than wasting a couple hours in the cold rain, I thought I would ask.
Planning to leave in the morning. This is last minute so I need to make wise choices.

Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays to everyone.

I believe you should be able to interchange the w126 wheels/lugs with the w123 (I'm asuming this is a stock set-up that you have on the w126).

I recently swapped a set of 15x7 et23 Ronal R9s from my w123 onto my w126 300sdl with not problems. Enjoy your trip!

they should fit well. as long as you don't have wide tires on the rims!

Thanks guys.

I should have mentioned that both vehicles are stock. I am dealing with OEM parts as delivered.

I remember reading that W124 and W201 wheels will not work on the W123, but W126 would. For this reason I was inquiring for a bit more info. I did a search but came up short. (search fail on my part perhaps?)

Will try in the am before departing, and then report in an effort to avoid having an open ended thread...don't you love those?

Wish you safe travel, I know this reply might be abit late but. The 126 wheels and tires on my 1984 300D 123 is running on wheels and tires from a 1985 300SD 126, it stands higher but no issue with the larger wheels and tires.

Flat face 15 hole rims from the w126 fit just fine on the w123. If your w123 is not stock and lowered then the tires from the w126 rims should be no bigger than 205/65/15's. Remember to use the w126 lugs.

Yes.
W126 rims from 81-85 (gen I) are the same bundt rims found on w123; they are 14 inch. In Gen II w126 (86-91) they are commonly called flat face or 15 hole; those rims are 15 inch.

Of course in a transition year very few cars may be called either year- but there are many differences between the 85 and 86 which will clue folks in to as if it is a gen I or a gen II.

Thanks guys. The swap went well with one surprise. The (Gen II) flat faced 15" wheels bolted on just fine and work perfectly. The 14" bundts from the W123 bolted onto the rear but will not clear the front calipers. I left my W126 on jack stands with the wheels just covering the brakes to not look so bad. (I have pretentious neighbors all with brand new cars). No biggie, I just have to do the reverse swap. I kind of like these wheels on the W123.

So I have a new question, will the larger brakes swap over to the W123? I feel no lack of brake power in the W123, but if it's an easy swap and I have the parts, why not?

Again, thanks for the participation. I will follow up with photos as I have time.

I hope everyone rings in the new year safely !
