My E300D survived despite a hot day

When everything is in spec these cars can run like MB designed them to when new.

Despite my radiator being 20 years old, the car ran incredibly well on the hottest day on record here in Sydney. Temperature reached 46.4 degrees Celsius (115.5 Fahrenheit) and that was the official temp.

Regular coolant changes/flushes must have helped along with an almost new viscous fan coupling, thermostat, top/bottom hose and rad cap.

For the most part of my 80km drive, the car sounded like the under workings of a diesel electric train! That mechanical fan absolutely raws when engaged.
Temp gauge stated 100C at most times (usually around 85-90C) and only went to 105C whilst stuck at a long red traffic light in which the electric fans came on.

Admittedly I was anxious for some parts of the trip but confident to take it out on hot days now.

yep that fan is LOUD when the air temperature is hot - but 46C - man, that is killer hot - only experienced such in the Middle East - once in Dubai when it hit 50C. I actually felt the heat of the sun really bbqing my head.

In inland Australia we see mid 40's most summers. Difference is that in the country we dont see traffic jams so we have good air flows. People in Sydney like the OP, are close to the coast & that helps to keep the temps down a little.

If we could send you some of this heat we would gladly. The air here has a smell of smoke at the moment from bush fires a few 100 miles away.
I have irrigation water going at the moment, you dont mind falling in the channel when its this hot.

Your wildfires have been in the news here in the USA. The heat sounds quite awful even in Celsius degrees. Glad to read that the E300 has a good cooling system.
