I haven't driven my 79 300 SD that often (can sit for 3 weeks to a month) I just installed a new battery (950 C.C.A) and it will run down in about 3 to 4 weeks without starting it. My clock does work, but will that little clock run the battery down in that short of time, or should I look for other problems, or if its not broke, don't fix it.

I would say that the clock wouldn't do it. You must have another amperage draw on the battery to run it down so fast. Troubleshooting it will be time-consuming.

One thing you can do is install a master switch untill you can trouble shoot the problem. With the master switch just switch it off and no drained down battery.

Thanks bill, thats an excellent idea,and cheap too. I did measure the current out of the battery with the car off (Amp meter between battery and positive cable) and I show 50ma, but fluctuates (0 to 50ma). I assume this is the Quartz clock.

may i suggest try disconnecting your ground wire while the car sits idle to see if the batt will hold the charge then
adjust your clock on startup

A bad battery--one with a weak or shorted cell--will discharge quite rapidly. The amperage you read (50 ma) should not discharge a healthy 123 battery until 60 days or more have passed.
