What's wrong appearance wise?

Paint - lots of options from Earl Scheib to a custom shop.

Interior - lots of parts in pic n pull

Peeling vinyl on doors and b-pillars, use contact cement

Wood trim - strip and refinish or there are lots of fine examples on eBay for a couple hundred bucks for good ones

Dirty carpet, Bissell or see pwogaman's thread on how he cleaned his carpets
1987 300TD W124 Wagon...DC Impound Auction...$450 Ends 07/18/2012

He gets the award for transformation from basket case to downright presentable on a budget.

you've got a premium engine, in low mileage condition, that's a step in the right direction for sure.

next I'd pull ALL the rubber off the car, and replace it.
front to back, all the steering joints, shocks, bushings, bearings, subframe mounts, etc.
everything.
then get a nice color sanding and clear coat paint refresh.
brakes flushed, and all components updated.
steam clean the interior, and replace any seat springs or install the foam inserts to improve the seat comfort.

after all this, I challenge you to find a newer car to beat the 87's.

Diesel exhaust fluid is widely available now, even at pumps in truck stops. It cost's less than diesel fuel.

Au contrere

ext I'd pull ALL the rubber off the car, and replace it. Check all door seals and trunk seal. Not window seals yet.

front to back, all the steering joints, shocks, bushings, bearings, subframe mounts, etc. Check
everything.
then get a nice color sanding and clear coat paint refresh. This is going to take dynamite and earthmoving equipment.
brakes flushed, and all components updated. Check. Do that every two years religiously. Same with tranny/diff fluids.
steam clean the interior, and replace any seat springs or install the foam inserts to improve the seat comfort. Steam check. Foam inserts ala gsxr/Dave Check. Also recovered front seats with the good Benz Tex stuff.
All windows work. Ant works. Hell even the A/C works although converted to the bad stuff. New windshield. Real Euro lights.

If only the MB dealer wanted an example of why a MB is a long term proposition and would cover the paint job, I would drive around as a billboard.

adblue??

Isn't Adblue fluid the same as diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) which is available at my local auto parts place for less thatn $30 a jug. Lasts quite a while if I understand correctly. I might be wrong about that , just asking. Cheers

most likely the ones sold by merc dealers are very different, came from virgins from virgin islands.
certain merc dealer parts are cheap and certain ones are totally out of this world.

from what I understand it's the leavings of the long searched smurfs... hunting them is problematic, and harvesting their, ah liquids has several lawyers caught up in litigation over the mistreatment of the creatures...
