Installation of replacement trunk lock for 300SD?

*trunk lock - Sorry about the typo! Apparently I can't edit the title so just wanted to make sure everybody knew it was the trunk and not a truck lock

I've been searching and come up with nothing that answers my question or helps with the install. We just got an '84 300SD for my dad and the trunk lock had been busted in and needed replacement. My dad got one from the dealer for $40 and it included a key that matches the original!

I tested the lock and it works with the key we had and the new key that came with it. Once I installed the lock I cannot turn the key. It wont install in any other position besides the vertical spot. I cant see anything that looks like it might obstruct the key from twisting, no matter what I have tried it will not turn. If I take it back out of the car then It will move freely just like it should IN THE CAR

Anybody replaced one of these before? Any tips you might have would be great. Going to look at a friend's copy of the w126 FSM tomorrow to see if it covers this in any detail.

Just to clarify in case anybody wasn't sure, I'm talking about the lock cylinder mechanism with the linkage attached that goes to the vacuum actuator.

Thanks!

I guess nobody has ever had to install a new trunk lock? I can't seem to find any tips/tricks in the w126 FSM either

I'd try the stealership first since they sold you the part... I personally don't know of anyone who had changed the trunk lock...
Good luck!
