Northern California Diesel Drive - Devil's Slide

We use to be good at getting together, but its been a couple years. Read this story today, and thought we should grace his new "Euro Style" tunnel with some euro style diesel exhaust.

Cutting edge Calif. tunnels poised to open - Yahoo! News

They don't say when the tunnel will be open, but I'm sure some of you local guys might have more info.

Jim B. once told me he'd drive his cay anywhere, except Devil's Slide. Now Jim can drive the coast to Half Moon Bay

Just drove past there a week ago today, and it sure didn't look like it was going to open anytime in the next week or so. I'm glad they're going to open the tunnels, but that will mean the loss of a stunning drive, at least when it's not the rainy season and you might lose part of the road.

I'd hope they would keep the old road open as a scenic route... at least til it fell in the ocean.

Hey, I had to drive Devils Slide in my truck, just after buying it!

Lets just say I almost crapped my pants! I was straddling the line on both sides of the lane... It was an experience, one that will NEVER be forgotten.

let's drive the coastal road before it closes. tunnels may be more reliable but less fun. sirnik, the cliff road is staying open as long as it stays clear of landslides, to pedestrians and bicyclists. i'm happy with this, but no idea if they propose to offer a parking lot at either side.
