What is this part called? Where can I order it? Restoring a Mercedes 1981 240D

The part that is cracking I would like to replace along with the weatherstripping. Please help.

Also where can I order it and is it difficult to install?

Most folks just remove those. I don't think they are available at the dealer anymore. And if I recall the folks who did replace them they just melted and warped within a year or so again anyways.

That's right, just remove then. Clean off the glue residue and you will never know that they were there.

I just did the same thing in mine -- I can take a photo if you would like to show the door without it. Looks much nicer.

Yes but I want to keep it original. I guess I will have to make my own.

If you could make those and make them look good and real, you could sell them. They would be very hard to make...

For some reason the car I just sold to "the Don" had nice ones even in the hot Florida sun. My other 2, well....

if you remove it can you re shape it by heating it?I wonder if you can smooth out the crinkles or if its permanently brittle.

Could you post those pictures? I've got two afflicted 123s and never considered just removing it.

How about steaming it with a clothes iron? My car has them, and they don't look so hot, so I may give that a shot myself...

I'll be leaving work in an hour, and will snap a photo when I get home. I have only removed from two of the doors, but will pull the others off when I take the photos for you!

You mean original to US specs. Euro models never had it to begin with. I removed it all from mine. Lots less crunching and creaking!

I assume you are talking about the plastic trim around the door glass. that is a thin plastic piece, and steaming it won`t really do anything, I guess you could try. I have come across a few in the yards that were perfect. usually after this many years since the cars left the factory, the heat really does a number on the plastic even if it isn`t wrinkled. I have removed a few, but they usually will crack and or split getting them off.

Under the plastic, it will show the door frame and is painted the same color as the rest of the car. I removed them off our 240D. didn`t look too bad since the paint is Ivory and the int is Tan.

Our 85 is Silver with Black Int, the trim is still on, but might look weard taking them off and having the Silver showing. thought of painting it black so it wouldn`t be sticking out like a sore Thumb.

I can only imagine what these would cost from the dealer if they were still available.
I just priced the linkage piece that has STOP on it. the one on the 240 has a piece of rubber for a vibration dampner, it broke off. $365.00 Ouch.....

Here are the photos I promised. I hadn't yet done it to all the doors, so I went ahead and pulled it off the others, and took a photo before and after.

I believe the proper name for those is a "watchamacallit". Or maybe "thingamajig". One or the other.

No, it's "overengineeredinteriorpart".
