My 1980 300SD
I've been lurking in the corners for the last few months gathering advice and taking your opinions to heart.....and finally made the leap and bought a 1980 300SD! Special thanks to Reed and Mike for the email advice and listening to pre-purchase jitters. Spent the entire week prior cleaning the interior and getting it as close to perfect as it can be @ 23 years old. Actually, it looks great and with 112K (documented...
 ), I'm looking forward to a long prosperous relationship. Doesn't hurt that she looks so classy parked in the garage next to her kid sister, my 1980 450SL>.....

Congrats on your purchase. I know your gonna love it. Next time we have a MB Diesel get together here in Atlanta you'll have to drive over so we can get a look at it.
At 112k it's barely broken in! It probably still has that new car smell.

Thanks everybody....I have lots of questions.....you'll probably get your share. Yep, it definitely had a smell before I cleaned for a week, but it wasn't necessarily new! Now that I got several layers of dirt off, it has the same cool vintage Mercedes leather smell........don't know if I could tell if I were in the 450 or the 300 if I were blindfolded. Ray, looks like you and I have similar taste in cars, though you'd have even more opportunities for "top-down" time with my SL than we have in Alabama.
Spent the day today cleaning and waxing the exterior on the 300, so tonight she's shining inside and out. Will get some pics together of both this week and show them off. We are due for the first mechanic visit on Thursday...that's when the questions start  Passed the compression test on inspection before I bought it, so I'm counting on some seal replacments, probably a valve adjustment and some general maintenance. All in all, I don't think I've been this happy with a vehicle purchase since the 450. NOW, if somebody will buy my Expedition....
