Removed Turbo
I removed the turbocharger in my 87 300tdt. I discovered that the oil return from the turbo was very loose. This explains why I was blowing through a quart of oil per week. I am going to have the turbo tested as a precaution since I have it out of the vehicle.
Fun Sunday! |
Stripped the paint off my hubcaps to prepare for repainting.

my new mityvac showed up yesterday, so today i diagnosed/confirmed my bad shut off valve and ordered a new one. it'll be here in the morning. ~$135
while i was giving my benz some attention, i decided to clean out and organize the trunk. i only got it about half way done. ha. |
cleaned the vac check valve, and installed the new vac shutoff. it didn't come with new gaskets. good thing the old ones came off complete. one of them was put on with the keyway out of place, so it split, but i managed to get it on the new part without it crumbling.
|
today i finally installed the new resonator rubber hangers that have been laying in my trunk for a year. i also finished cleaning out the trunk. i took out probably 30 pounds of tools and junk.
i'm knockin stuff out. i guess the pleasant weather of spring has inspired me. |
Arrrrrrgghhhhhh!

On the brighter side I temp-fixored one broken radiator neck, installed egr block-off plate and did a little TS on an elusive whistle. Disabling the ARV valve at the compressor housing helped a bit. Replaced the belt tensioner committee that had been complaining at an ever increasing pace recently. Tomorrow she gets new shoes, woohoo. Hooray for balanced wheels! Quote:

240D leather Shift Boot
When we got the 80 240D a little over three years ago, the original rubber shift boot had seen better days. I ordered a new one, the replacement was made out of some sort of stiff plastic, and made in India. I refered to it as made by Tupper ware. and when it was cold, about as stiff.
It wouldn`t stay under the lip on the shifter plate, and when it did, it was almost impossible to move the lever. so I just pulled it loose and turned it sideways. warm days it was kind of .......ok. last Tuesday my Wife and I were in a PNP, and she spotted a leather shift boot in a 96 Saab 900. wasn`t in too bad of shape so we pulled it. Today I decided to install it. I had a spare black plastic shift plate with just the one big red 4-way flasher button like the 80 has. the Saab shifter has a seperate square piece the boot fits over and then snaps into the shifter plate. that looks easy to retrofit. With some files, Dremell, Razor blade knife, felt tip marker and a hack saw blade, I went for it. first I cut off the lip off the shifter plate, cutting through the slots around the 4 sides. filed it down smooth, set the Saab piece the boots fits on, and marked where it needed to be opened up. then cut 4 slots for the clips to snap into. there are 4 springy plastic tabs. Washed up the leather shift boot. then gave it a go over with some black shoe polish. washed up the plastic shift plate with some Soft Scrub. after it was dry, hit it with a couple coats of 303 Protectant. Pulled off the old shift plate, washed up the 30 years of dirt under the plate, and installed the new one. wow does it look good. Probably spent an hour and a half messing with it before I got it where I wanted it. Charlie |
^Pics you forgot to put the pics^
Charm - excellent little DIY project there. Yay for re-purposing. Now just needs a pic or two sir. I do loves me some dremel and some 303. Wondertools!
Speaking of center consoles, gonna swap out the existing zebrano in the SDL today. Johanna got new shoes Tuesday and replaced both rear regulators yesterday. One had the broken plastic slide tab and the other, a bad motor. MBZ123 |

Replace the front seal on the Power Steering Pump
About a year ago, I replace the rear seal of my power steering pump. It was really leaking.
Today I replaced the front seal as it had started seeping a bit. 84 300D |
driver's seat
I took out the driver's seat; removed the good stuff (seat belt and outside lower plastic trim) and threw it and the passenger seat away. :D
