I think the fuses for that function are under the rear seat behind the battery. My wife has the car so I can't check right now...

The fuses are there. Remove the rear seat to see them. Before you even check the fuses, check for water in the battery compartment.

I would guess that there is a module somewhere for the central locking function but I don't know where it is. I'm still learning about this car.

On my '98, the vacuum pump for the locks is wrapped in padding, sitting next to the battery. It emits a "purring" sound when activated.

Do these cars use vacuum for the door locks?

I'm pretty sure yours is like mine. The vacuum pump runs the door locks, headrest releases and trunk release.

central locking fix
Here is an update on the central locking vacuum pump assembly. Decided to take it apart when the dealer quoted me a price of 1200.00 for a new one. It was easy to take it apart the hardest thing was getting the electrical connectors off but finally figured out how to remove them. I found out that a 2 inch piece of hose had came off the fitting that supplied the vac. from the pump replaced the hose with some medical grade silicone hose put it back together and it worked perfect, I just could not believe the problem was that simple just wanted to pass this information along maybe somebody might have the same problem.

central locking fix
Lake Rat,
You mention "take it apart" a couple times in your post, does that refer to removing the pump from the car only, or removing the pump from the car and actually disassembling it? So what I am asking is - was the hose that came off internal in the pump, so the pump had to be disassembled to get connector in question, or was the connector external? Thanks. |

I have heard about how these can develop leaks. Glad to hear you were able to fix it!
