92 300D Fuel mileage and radio Question

First I have a 92 300D with 157K on it right now. I got 430 miles to 14.9 gallons of fuel which averages about 28.8MPG average city/highway which is about equal for me. Is that good average or poor just wondering what other folks are getting.

Secondly I got a question about installing an aftermarket radio, is there anything that can be done to bypass the factory amplifier without running speaker wire all the way to the back amplifiers. How have other people done it. Or is it worth it to just take to a stereo shop.

Thanks in Advance

Your mileage is fine....that's typically what I see and I have two of these cars. Best I will ever see is about 32 mpg straight highway. Some other forum members have seen better mileage....they must just have better driving habits than I do.

I have a 91 300D turbo 320K miles and get around 20 mpg with me driving all city. Wife gets about 25 all city. I have gotten 30-31 highway only (very seldom take on trips). So I would say yours is doing fine.
As for the radio, there are 4 different systems for my 91. Radio w/Active Bass, Radio w/Sound system, 2 piece radio w/ active bass, and 2 piece radio w/ CD player & sound system. Mine had radio w/ active bass. All I had to do was connect the new radio to the left and right channels and leave the bass amp as it was and every thing works.
The ones with the sound system become much more complicated as they use line out signals, not speaker signals. If you could find accurate diagrams I guess it could be done, using all the original amps.
I can't comment on the 2 piece radios as they are very intergrated systems with multi amps.
Your 92 could be different. So your first thing to do is find out which system your car has.

Paul
