300SDL Door Handle Mechanics
Good day-
Took the door apart to tighten up the door handle assembly....it had become loose and had shifted a little. Lined it back up and tightened the screw down. Now the handle won't work from the outside, need to open from the inside. What did I miss? Everything looked okay, but you know how limited it is in there to actually see anything...... Lance-

Did you get the skinny actuator rod back into the almost invisible little hole
in the dirty lock mechanism hiding inside the dark dimly lit door? Did this ester day and it took me a half hour and a bright flash light to get the rod back into the right little hole.

Thanks Will.....I'm sure that's it. Did you reassemble by reaching through door cutouts, or by removing the handle assembly from the outside?

I removed and replaced the latch assembly as per the Maint. manual.
Which means I didn't remove the door liner at all. Just popped the cap on the edge of the door, removed the screw holding the latch assembly to the door, pushed the lock forward and swung it out of the door. Of course I didn't peek inside as I was removing the latch, so I didn't see exactly where that skinny little rod was coming from :-( It took me some time to figure that the little rod snaked trough a small slot in the internal latch mechanism, and then goes into a small round wheel with an elongated hole in the center. You can't really see the roundness of the wheel since it is hidden in back :-) Make sure you have the key in the lock handle and have the key turned about 50 degrees. The turns the skinny rod so that the ears on the end of the shaft fits into the elongated hole in the little wheel. The ears on the shaft turns the little wheel when you rotate the key, and this is what causes the door to unlock. If the skinny shaft misses the elongated hole in the little wheel then your key won't open the door from the outside. Hope this helps! Will

Thanks again Will.......good info. My key still locks/unlocks though, but the latch will not work when pulling the handle. I have to pull the lever from inside to open the door.
