I have a complete sunroof that I cleaned rust proofed and rebuilt. Only to find the sunroof from a w123 wagon is NOT the same as a W123 sedan! Ild love to see somebody do somehting funky with it like this unless NC Friend wants it back for his wagon!
I agree with the others , the water drains are key.The original construction seemed to be such that there is a thick very spongy gasket that is very oily/tary around the back half. I assume to keep the water in the pan and not leaking out the back of the pan into the headliner. Oddly enough EPC does not show this thicker piece of gasket as separate. I would think you could build your own possibly thicker gasket if you needed to. |

I do however have a complete manual sunroof that I got from Vstech, I believe out of a sedan sitting here.... |
Yeah its got all new springs, plastics, and yeah it has the air dam.
I had planned to peel off the thick gasket on the back half to replace the missing one on my 78. Let me crunch some number son how much I have in it and I'll get back to ya. |

Funny about this... I saw a W123 cruising down I-95 a few days ago. The sunroof obviously had quit working (along with the A/C). He had installed a small 12x12 boat hatch into the sun roof and had the open end facing the front of the car to force air into the cabin!! Something like you would see on a 40's or 50's Ford or Chevy. Innovative, but I had to laugh. I should have got a pic of it!
If I were attempting this particular project, I would find a "donor car" and cut the entire sunroof assembly out of the car up to 6 inches beyond the sunroof all the way around. This way you get the entire assembly, seals, drains, etc... Then cut and weld this into your truck/van. You should also be thinking about reinforcing the roof around this particular area as you could turn it into a death trap if the truck/van were to ever roll over. |

but now that I look this over I am not too happy with the truck anymore. The mpg is 15-19 and probably going to sell it locally. I bought & sold a 240D last week, after not owning any Benz diesels for 3 years and now I think I got the bug back. Thanks. AA |
