Has anyone here shipped an engine before? How much did it cost?
I will probably be looking to ship at least one engine, and possibly have one shipped to me. To be clear, we are talking about the OM617.95X. Greyhound won't ship it due to the weight. Do you know a good place to ship? How much would it cost to ship it from TX to here? I was thinking of UShip.

I had to ship out a transmission and by the time all the fees added up, it was round $300 to ship halfway across the country. You can use the regular UPS store but they will charge you a dock fee or a lift fee on both ends and that will just about double your cost.
The best way I think is to use UPS or FedEx freight and somehow get the freight to and from your local terminal. That will save a bundle. I do this now and simply have them put heavy stuff in the back of my truck. I can lift it in and out of the truck with my loader or engine lift.

I have shipped a couple engines, I usually get a quote from shipping brokers. I've used a company called "mohawk global" a bunch of times for work and personal, like 5-10 pallet shipments.
First you need to palltize the engine, secure it so it will not move, drain it of fluids, place a bunch of absorbent material underneath before securing it, and a good idea is to place cardboard over it and wrap the heck out of it with shipping plastic. If it leaks in transit you will have a problem. Mark it blatantly that it is fragile and cannot be stacked. Then you need dimensions and weight to get quotes. If you do not have a way to load the pallet shipping will be more expensive, they will have to send a liftgate truck to get it. Shipping to and from residences will be cnsiderably more expensive for this reason, specific trucks need to be sent from the depot each time. Id take a guess at betwen 4 and 6 hundred to ship an engine from ma to tx without loading docks or forklifts at either end. I never tried building an actual crate on top of a pallet, but it might be cheaper if they can stack

Yes
I recently shipped 2 engines strapped to a pallet......for parts. The buyer filled out the bill of lading and sent the truck. Forklift on my end.

I shipped an engine to a guy in Missouri but he arranged and paid for all of it. I strapped it to a pallet, used the engine hoist to load all that on the trailer, and built a crate on the top of it. He set it up with Fedex freight, I just took it to the terminal and they took it off with a forklift, nice and easy.
