85 300D - No upshift
Wrapping up another engine swap project from a W126 chassis to a W123 today, and during the test drive the trans shifted fine. After a little while of running, it would not shift out of first. Now, I did notice I very much overfilled the transmission. I haven't had this happen before, even overfilled. But, since it would expand when hot, it this a possibility? I ran out of daylight, and will not likely be out there for at least a few days again. So, just ruling things out. Also, right before it happened, I noticed a high pitch squeal while in forward gears, when in neutral, it went away. The car's been sitting for years, so I wasn't too alarmed about various odd noises, but just recalled I did hear that faintly.
Any ideas?

Actually, I remember it started having the problem after I floored it. So, I'm thinking it may be as simple a stuck kickdown switch.

Yes. Could also be a stuck bowden cable.

The cable is free. As a matter of fact, the linkage for it skipped over the throttle plate after I floored it. I had to pop it back over the peg.

I accidentally overfilled my 126 trans a while back and it made it act really weird. It made it hold gears for a long time. So I'd correct the fluid level before going any farther with it.

Ha ha! Let's hope upshift doesn't return the favor.

It was the kickdown switch...
