'97 Exhaust hangers/clanking noise
I'm getting some clunking sounds from under the car when I go over certain kinds of bumps, and sometimes when I don't go over bumps at all. It sounds like the exhaust pipe banging against something, although I don't know why it would do that at low speed on a smooth road.
Anyway, from what I've read there are supposed to be two places the exhaust hangs from the car - in front of the muffler, and back near the bumper. The bumper hanger looks OK, haven't checked the forward mount. When I shake the exhaust pipe with my hand, I don't hear the clanking noise. Which makes me think that if I'm right, the clank comes from much farther forward. Is this information correct? Is that really all there is for exhaust system mounts? Just checking. Are there any trouble spots that have come up in the past where the muffler or exhaust pipe might be hitting something? Thanks, Charlie

FOLLOW-UP: Took the car in, turns out it was the left rear sway bar link coming loose. Since it was loose, the sway bar itself could slide a little bit and clunk into whatever's beside it. Mechanic only charged 1/2 hour labor, so I was pretty happy about that.
He also got the old right rear shock off - said he used a torch and air chisel. The lower bolt was seized into the bushing, ugh.
