AC Clutch or Compressor Replacement?
R4 Compressor - YouTube
This is on my 6.5 diesel but it is an R4 compressor. My AC system has had various leaks during my ownership. It seems I finally got those leaks fixed as it has held pressure for almost a month now. But now the other day my AC stopped working. I noticed when the AC button is engaged the clutch spins intermittently. With the engine off I spin it by hand and it is tight. There is enough of a refrigerant charge so that is not the issue (as you can see by looking at the gauges in the video). I hate to open up the system now that I have the leaks resolved but obviously I will if it needs compressor replacement. Do you think I could get away with just replacing the clutch? To me, something appears warped. It looks like the clutch as you watch the video with it partially spinning you can see the gap with the pulley getting larger and smaller. What do you think? Thanks! Ryan

A bit more information-
If I spray some lubricant in the edge where the plate meets the pulley it spins faster (for a short while anyways). I also noticed a spark coming from the edge of the clutch plate. I loosened the serp belt and the pulley spun pretty freely. So it appears the bearing is fine. Obviously something is deformed or misaligned.
