79 300d climate control question

I found a pretty good deal on a 300d, everything works but I know the climate control is a nightmare on these. My question is, we only use heat around here since it is so cold. Do the climate control issues affect heat or just A/C? is there a way for me to rig it so I can have just the heat.

That system is set up so that if a major component fails, it defaults to defrost only, which means full blower speed and full heat blowing onto the windshield. Noisy and hot. (If that doesn't work, then it probably means either the blower motor or control pushbutton panel is not functional.)

There is no way to rig the system as-is for heat only. You would need to rig a manual heater control valve. Some people have done that.

However, beyond that you would need to find a way to control the heater flaps to direct air where you want it, and to control the blower speed. I have never read of anyone who has done that, though lots of folks ask the same questions as you.

The system is called ACC II. Search on that and 'servo' and 'evil servo' to find more info in previous posts.

Here is another thread you can look at:

this car has 3 big knobs that control the climate control, is this the same screwy CC everyone complains about?

No. Three big knobs is the ACCI. Much simpler and should be an easy fix.

No. Either the car is a european-market direct import or someone else got fed up with ACC II and installed a setup out of either a european import or a 240d. Very doable but a great deal of work.

In either event, consider yourself very lucky .

Awsome, it might be an import, it has zero rust and 100k+ miles I'm hoping he will take $1500 for it.

Do you have anyphotos of the car?

Would love to see if its a euro, not many early euro w123s floating around....

Be prepared though, if this is an import....then likely the speedometer has been changed to a mph speedo....thus the milage claim means nothing...
