Trip Supplies and Spares
Since there is no thread on what supplies and spares to carry on an out of town trip, thought there should be one.
I already carry around town: Holy Bible fire extinguisher flares two blankets human food dog food with two bowls water folding shovel tire gauge small emergency tire compressor Green Slime set of metric wrenches generic lug wrench bottle of vegetable oil bottle of A.T.F. pre-filters main filter maps So, what do you all carry? What do you all recommend? Thank you all in advance! ![]()

![]() What do you mean by complete? I thought the wrenches and Mercedes screwdriver do what is needed? Good point about engine oil! Need to order that. For power steering, Tram and I use A.T.F.; is that wrong? A.T.F. is also carried for priming the main filter. Why 2 stroke oil? I was wondering what to do with that free tarp... Why gloves? For doing dirty work? I can't stand them because of my Autism. When I have gotten greasy away from home, I just wipe my hands off, though should also add hand cleaner. I did forget the rags... Good point about a light source! I remember Vater had one with a flashing function and a radio, I.I.R.C.. Will put the role of Made in the U.S.A. duct tape in. Best duct ever! Well, doesn't the dog have to eat? I am used to carrying a few things in case the big one hit. But, now that I am out of South Quakyfornia, do carry because it is better to be prepared. The shovel now is in case I or someone else gets stuck. Only six by nine by two inch package, so fits about anywhere.

This is a good thread to start... I carry the following.
1): Metric wrenches & socket set 2): Diesel filters for the 606. 3): Diesel oil. 4): Gallon of water (for the coolant, God forbid or if I desperately need a drink) 5): Some diesel-kleen junk or diesel purge 6): MAF sensor (I've replaced enough MAFS on 210s to know when they fail it's PITA) My best addition has been the MAF sensor so far.

Belts!
Set of belts!
Booster (jumper) cables. 2 bottles of Diesel Purge. Air cleaner rubber mounts.*** Picture hanging wire Bulbs (incl. headlamp if you have H4s) Treat windshield with Rain-X prior to departure At least one spare injector Injector return line Spare fuse for preglow relay At least two spare glowplugs Long needlenose pliers, I find curved tip most useful JB Weld Tire sealant/inflator in a can (for extreme emergencies only) WD40 (ok as penetrating oil but also can double as starting fluid if your glow relay goes out) ***: small thing that will annoy you half to death if two or more fail, far from a parts source

![]() Belts! Now there is a good point! Should have ordered those with the rest... Oh well. I have a road side kit I forgot to put on the list... That has jumper cables. I also forgot to put on the list an emergency kit for me and one for the dog (has already come in handy for when the Border Collie tore off her dew claw). Why the injectors and glow plugs? That reminds me that the number five glow plug has been non-operational for a year... ![]() As for the mounts, I have the Comufornia model, so just need to order the one that mounts to the radiator support as mine dried up and broke.

I especially carry it in the the E300 now cause of the leak. Back when I had my 82 300D I drove it to Harrisburg, I had an oil leak but found out at the gas station it was a little more than I expected... Well, at the station when I checked the dipstick the little bottle of 5W40s saved me. I bought more for the ride back and made it. I always expect something with these older diesels.

I saw that too and laughed. Bowls / bowels
Generally I carry as little as possible. A few open end wrenches, wires, wire cutter, top up oil. A length of strings or wire saved me from being stranded 300 miles from home years ago when the throttle cable broke and I was able to rig a hand throttle with the string and tree branch handle, drove on cruise once up to speed.
