300D won't turn off

I know this has been discussed before, but I'm wondering what I should do next in my case. My car won't shut off when I turn it off. The vacuum lines all look fine. The door locks work fine if that's any indication of vacuum issues. I hadn't been messing around under the hood just before this happened (this happened a long time ago after I had been messing around and the brown vacuum line had come loose).

Any idea what to check next? Thanks!

the shut off valve that cuts the fuel supply off to the IP is bad.

replace it but replace it with caution! make sure it is on the proper way.

there's no second chance if you get it wrong. ask a fellow named Larry Bible.

Either a faulty shut off valve or a vacuum leak somewhere. Since you say your locks work, there is a leak close to the shutoff valve or the valve is bad.

Easy test.

Pop the hood and pull vacuum on the line going to the shut off valve. Either use a vacuum pump hooked to the line or disconnect the line and literally suck on it with your mouth. If it shuts off you have a leak, if it stays running the valve is bad and needs replacement.

This may help-

Hahaha! I was going to give him the same link to dieselgiant yeah, that sounds like a bad shut-off valve there... You will need a lot of patience, don't just slap the valve on. Good luck!

beware of the shutoff valve. it can destroy your motor if installed wrong.
also, beware, if the valve is bad, you will have oil in your vacuum line. pull the line feeding the ignition switch, and clean it out with brake spray.

+1.

I would even check the new one first before you put it in.

Pull the brown vac line going to the shut off actuator and check for any oil in the line.
But it sounds as if you need a new one. Make a note of it's (hook) position when you remove it. As a precaution have a CO2 fire extinguisher on hand to flood the intake in case of a run away engine.
But I swapped one out without any drama.
You'll note two paper gaskets and one metal one, it's a sandwich affair.

It's just prudent to have a back up plan.
I installed one without any drama, just pay attention to how it's facing when you remove it. You se the nipple and hook are in a certain relation, there are four ways to install it, but it will be obvious once you take it out.
Don't worry.

I think the diagnosis of bad shut off valve is premature. It could just as easily be a vacuum leak. Suck on the valve and you'll get a definitive diagnosis.

I finally purchased a vacuum pump and gave a few pumps on the shut off valve and the car turned off. So I guess it's a vacuum leak or something.

Is there another part at the ignition that could be messed up? I tried to follow the brown vacuum hose from the shut off valve and it seems to go over the steering column and connect to right around the ignition.

^ That's normal, Did you find any oil in that line? I had one that would shut off when I applied vacuum, yet did have oil in that line, I replaced the shut off actuator, it shuts off with the key.

Yes ... there is a vacuum switch mounted on the ignition switch housing.

Ive read here that getting it off can be as much fun as a root canal.

i'll check for oil. i was thinking of just running a line from the shut off valve into the car and turn off the car with a vacuum pump.

God gave you a natural vacuum pump.
