Could turn the engine over without the injectors to push out any contaminants?

I am concerned that with my injector job that some grunge (very small particles) from the injectors may have fallen into the injection chambers as I removed them, plus may have had carbon fall in as I reamed the glow plug holes, so I was wondering if I could just crank the engine over to puff out the contaminants? I know this is commonly done to remove stuck heat shields, but would this work? My friend is concerned that it could damage the fuel or injection pump if we do this, is there any basis for that concern?

I do it all the time. totally safe on the IP to do.

Wire the IP stop lever down so there's no fuel spray.

Do it....but before you do.....drop some mmo into the cylinders....crank the engine over one or two time....add some more and let it sit a day or so.....this will clean all the gunk out of the cylinders and help free any stuck rings....just make sure to blow it all out and then change the oil....Its a great maintenance idea, that many people don't do...

Sounds like a great idea but I just changed the oil about 20 miles ago

Oh thats a bummer, on mine....what I did was put lucas in through the glow plug holes...the bottle said it helps remove stuck rings...so for the heck of it I used it...

I currently have the injectors out of my OM617. I would like to give the MMO treatment a shot. Two questions. 1) Can I add the MMO in through the prechambers where the injectors came out (I don't want to have to pull perfectly working glow plugs) 2) To blow it all out before I put the injectors back in and start it, can I again just wire the stop lever back to keep the IP from spraying fuel and crank a few times?

I believe the PC holes are quite small, so the glow plugs would probably be a better bet.

??? The glow plug goes into the prechamber. Whether you pour MMO into the vertical injector hole (easier) or horizontal glow plug hole (harder) it's going to have to seep through the tiny holes in the prechamber into the combustion chamber.

Agreed Injectors holes are the way to go....the glow holes on the later w123 is very small and also as was said...just wire the lever down to stop the fuel from spraying
