Traded off the CD for a lovely '84 Alfa Spider. A very nice example with original paint and 113k miles.

Gent that test drove the CD drove it like I never had .... hit second and the back end broke loose and was spinning, hit third and chirped (it's a bit damp here today). I was pretty damn surprised the old CD would do that, I drove her like a little old lady...but then, I was the guy doing the repairs.

Down to two MBs, guess I need to fix my sig line.

I always heard the key to keeping an OM616 or 617 running clean was to drive it like you just stole it. Unfortunately, by the time the turbo model came around, this could actually draw some unwanted attention.

you mean you geriatric'ed around town and never floored your 617 you nearly fully rebuilt?
what a shame, the cars come alive when you stomp on them. I drive the wifes 300TD like I stole it, my 240D like I stole it and suffer from a napoleon complex, and the van/617 like Im wearing a racing helmet and own the road up until 65mph, at which point Im topped out on gearing.

Sounds like you two are happy with the trade though.

An Alfa Spider: I understand those are every bit as reliable and trouble free as an MGB. Good luck.

CD's being much rarer than sedans, are worth more. At the chowda q event there was a CD owner who was paid $10k by his insurance to fix his CD after a tree landed on it, new paint job and all.

Italian cars as a whole don't have a reputation for reliability. By the 3rd generation the Alfa was better than the MG, but then again they weren't dealing with Lucas electrics. Alfa folks are doing rod bearings, rings and liners at 180k miles or less, OTOH, the job can be done with the engine in the car.

I love my 240D still, Im looking forward to finding a steering box for it.

Are you planning on posting up some pictures of the Alfa? 'Cos if you're planning to do pictures I'd love to see that sexy tractor of yours!

Steering box? I the steering box out of a 85 300D would be the same right? If so I have one in perfect condition. Tightest one I've ever had. It came out of the same parts car as the blue interior... You may have a reason to drive this way after all...

Here's one of the 8N while we were out sighting in an AR15 at 180 meters. I've since put the intake screen on (missing in this pic). I don't have a proper off road vehicle so the tractor gets me out to where I shoot.

And what on earth do you need an AR15 for? Is it just for fun? (It would most certainly make me grin like a child in a sweet shop or like a young lad being met by a lady in high heels, stockings and a fur coat)

Don't know about the Fordson. This is the 8N, which was a long production run after the shorter run of 2N and 9N, all are a follow on based on the Ferguson-Ford joint venture after the two had a parting of the ways. Mine still works for a living, but not very hard, she has to cut 5 acres of brush a few times a year.

I shoot competition with the AR. As I'm not wealthy this is the semi-auto variant not the burst fire or full auto. It does have some nice upgrades for competition.

I drive the wagon like I drive the Porsche; fast and in the left lane. The Porsche belongs there, the wagon looks funny there, I'm sure. Assuming anyone pays attention while driving, I'd think it quite emasculating to get passed by a 30-yr old diesel wagon. Biggest surprise to me is that the wagon runs so good, it's actually quick.
