Prep for changing Brake pads on 2005 E320CDI

I have seen videos about changing the brake pads but some people mention disconnecting some connectors in the engine compartment and opening all doors etc., before jacking up the car, without giving any explanation. Replacing the brake pads and rotors is usually the same on almost all cars, but if there needs to be some pre-planning required, that should be given some explanation to make the job smoother for the DIYers. Any comments will be appreciated.
