vacuum acuator for fuel door

hi there, i pulled this off my 83 240d and i believe it is a vacuum actuated fuel door lock. if that is true how do i operate it from inside the car. thanks

I have a 300SD. The fuel door locks via vacuum when the doors are locked. When the door is unlocked, the fuel door unlocks automatically.

This should be the same way yours works. As far as I know there is no other way to work the fuel door unless you attach a Mityvac to the plastic line going to the fuel door and pump it.

Tyl604 is right. Test the vacuum element with a Mityvac. Maybe it is bad and there are golf tees in the hoses that connected to it. Sounds like a good excuse to trouble shoot the whole vacuum lock system.
