calling all electrical gurus

what would cause every single interior illumination light to go out? went to get in my car and drive home tonight and every light on the gauge cluster, shifter, climate control, and dash were off with headlights on.

all fuses are brand new brass/copper from mercedes source, i gave the box a quick once over and didn't see any blown but it was raining and i was tired of getting wet.

thanks!

(if it is of any help, my cruise control stopped working about a week ago but i've narrowed that down to the amplifier with jamesdean's help and guides)

hey, did you guys know that the left button on the cluster is a also a knob that controls the brightness of the dash lights? because i sure didn't....

anyway... it seems to be going bad because i have to fiddle with it to get any light and only at certain points in it's rotation.... is there a way to jump the dimmer and just have them be full bright all the time?

Check the rheostat in the instrument cluster.

Almost certainly the rheostat. Try jiggling and twisting the dimmer and see if you can get the lights to flicker. Most people just solder a wire across them and call it a day.

lol, seems we all posted at once. Like I said, the permanent fix is to just solder a wire across it to effectively bypass it. The lights inside a w124 will never be too bright....

Reach out to member vstech, I suspect he's got a few spares. He's on the west side of town.

If not I do but I'm down in Columbia.
