splined plastic injector shroud thingies.

Seriously, how important are these things? I broke almost all of them taking the injectors out for nozzle replacement and pop testing.

A member stated that Mercedes does not offer them. Only purpose I see is to keep dirt out of the head injector recess.

This isn't true, the part number is 6010170150 and list is $2.40. Don't know why you'd want to buy them, but you could.

I was told they were NLA by my mechanic but it seems I was wrong. What I suggest to the OP is that you leave the injectors out and move everything away from the top of the engine then crank it over a few times, it'll blow out any crud that fell down into the engine.

I've had a lot of 60X motors some with them some without and the only thing I could possibly see is that they keep crud out of the prechambers around the injector.

As far as I know they are only on cars with inclined injection.

this is the amount of crap, mostly sand, that was around the injector hole after removing the injector and plastic thingie. all of them were this bad. i had to use a shop vac to suck all that crud out of there to keep it from falling in.

the plastic thingies did not go back on as all but one are in pieces.

They're made to crumble apart so you can have official OE crud in the pre-chamber area. At least that's what I've noted.
