Removing driver's seat. Inaccessible rear bolts

I need to remove the drivers seat on my new 1984 300D, and the front two 10 mm bolts, no problem. But the rear 2, seem to be below the track, and impossible to get at.

What am i missing here?

It has been a while but you should be able to get to them with seat slid all the way forward.

With the seat all the way forward, i can see where those rear bolts are, but the head of the bolt is below the track and inaccessible!

Is the seat raised all the way, not just pushed forward?

I did it with a small thin combination wrench. But it was extremely tedious. A tiny bit of a turn a time.

One of those items where you want to use penetration oil on so the loosen up as soon as possible.

Small thin wrench might work for removal, but putting them back in after???? Designed by Nazis!

IIRC, you must slide the seat all the way rearwards, then raise it up as high as possible.

(If the seat is not motorized, you may have to remove the rear bench seat so you can
stand/crouch behind the front seat to lift the rear frame of the front seat upwards - as the
height adjustment may be stiff from disuse.)

Next, slide the seat forward to expose the rear bolts.

If it's manual seats, there is a trick to it.

I will try to get the side lever to move & see if i can push the seat upwards tomorrow once it hits 90 degrees

As others have said the seat needs to be raised up.

There are two levers on your seat, one which raises and lowers the seat located on the side, and a second lever that moves it forwards and backwards located in the front of the seat. You'll likely need to sit in the seat to raise it. Verify its not stuck and that you can raise and lower it.

Never realized those two levers served two different functions. By lifting that side lever with one hand, and prying the seat forward with a 2 x 4 against the door jamb, i was able to move that seat up, and easily access the rear bolts!

Now i am wondering how to replace the bottom part of that seat, which is very worn, with a seat bottom from a '79 300CD.

There are large phillips screws that hold the tracks together and the seat bottom to the tracks. By sliding the tracks forward or back a #3 phillips reaches right in. Pop off the seat back adjuster handle and the trim cover to reach the bolts holding the back and bottom together. Figure out how it all works or take some pictures to remember how it all goes back together. Clean and lube those slides while you are in there. I was surprised how nice they work when they are maintained.

Seats from a CD and 4 door are not interchangeable.
