603 injector socket
I tried to remove the injectors with a Craftsman 27mm deep impact socket but there is structure inside the socket that prevents the socket from engaging the flats on the injector.
Will a regular Craftsman 27mm deep socket work? Any known common brands (Husky, Mac, etc.)? Will I have to buy a special socket? Thanks, Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL |
As long as the socket is "broached" deep enough any of them should work. I use an old MAC 1 1/16" that is "broached all of the way.

I use a 27mmm Craftsman deep socket.

I tried a Craftsman 27mm deep socket and the return nipples are just tall enough that the socket only contacts the upper half of the wrench flats. I guess I'll keep looking.

sixto,
I use a Craftsman deep socket, 27mm, too and also had some contact with the return line nipples. They are pretty soft stuff, so I just pushed them inward slightly and the socket fit on fine. I noticed one or two were already slightly bent, and the socket fit on them, so I "adjusted" the others to suit. If you push too hard they can get so close to the fuel connection part of the injector that the little hose is more trouble to get on and off, but a large slot head screw driver can be used to push them back out. Good luck, Jim |
Or you can buy the real Mercedes tool (made by Hazet, I think) for less than $20. It has a relief inside for the nipples.

Craftsman 27mm long. I have used it to replace the injectors twice, adn to remove the head once. No problems.
