Headrests

Wondering if anyone else can help enlighten me with this dilemma.

EPC says that headrests are specific to the chassis and that there's very little interchange.
However, they appear to all be interchangeable between chassis and models where the EPC says they shouldn't.

For example, front W123 headrests are supposedly different from wagon headrests, but they fit just fine. Perhaps they're a little wider?
Also W123 and W126 headrests appear the exact same, with the exception of W126 leather headrests which are smaller.

I don't have any W124s or R107s around to test on, but I'm wondering if those may also be the same.

I'm referring to 1980 and later style, but I'm wondering if it's the same for 1979 and earlier, with W116, W115, W114

Not identical but they all will fit. Length of rods and type of cover and support internally will differ

I put earlier (pointy) headrests in my car and now have the tablet looking ones to get rid of. black. there was no discernable difference in the fit.

Now if we are talking rear headrests, the mounting brackets can't be interchanged...but I have heard that early w126 headrests will fit in the rear brackets of a w123....I really wish the dealers carried the brackets still as I want rear head rest but can't see paying 150-250$ for a pair...
