The car belongs to my teenage son, he was driving to work the other day, 65ish mph and the car suddenly downshifted and would not upshift at any engine speed. he had to creep home in 1st gear. Upon inspection I noticed a vacuum line coming from the transmission to a canister of some kind on the drivers fender that had come off. I plugged it back in and now the car shifts from 1st to 2nd like it should but will only shift into 3rd if I rev the engine as high as it will go and let off the gas suddenly, however it will only stay in 3rd gear for a short time before downshifting, regardless of vehicle speed.
I have a fair amount of experience with gas engines and a little with automatic transmissions, but none with Mercedes diesels. I need help!!
