particles in engine oil
When changing the oil on my 1981 240D, i thought i saw a couple of particles come out with the oil from a gallon jug of Castrol. Might have been pieces of the plastic foil seal.
Wondering if i should be worried, or if such particles would be trapped by the filter. I always search the forum before posting, and found a nearly identical post from about 10 years ago that no one responded to. I've driven the car about 25 miles since, and no obvious ill effects. Thanks! |

Generally not a problem, in theory it could cover a oil drain back hole but there is more than one drain and the foil would tend to float around. Did you have a look in the oil fill to see if the foil was in there?
I've taken valve covers off that had a few oil bottle plastic cap rings laying up there so a foil seal won't be an issue. |

As long as it is not something that would be big enough to get through the Oil Pump Screen and then be solid enough to damage the Oil Pump it would be OK.
Also it does not sound like somthing big enough to block off the Oil Pump Screen. After Oil is out of the Oil Pump it goes to the Oil Coller and Oil Filter.

small foil(?) particles
The particles seemed to be about .25 cm., could even have been air bubbles tho i doubt it.
Guess i'm OK Thanx for the replies. |
