Have a 1985 300SD, a rust-free southern car, which began its life in Oklahoma and moved across the south while I served a career in the Military. Was my wifes car, then handed down to a daughter, now she wants a Volvo.
Car has 440K, cranks and runs good, we replaced tranny, which shifts good, but the car is old (4 dr) silver/gold with red interior, and I am not sure whether to part or sell. AC needs a Pump. Virginia has a tight inspection, and on this one, they said the tie rods need replaced because the boots were torn, so replaced and aligned, actually all the tie rods replace. Had good brakes, but replaced master cylinder and pads. Otherwise, passes inspection. Shame to part, but shes lived a good life. shame, because I have a tub full of service parts for future .... anyone want a rust free project before I part it? |

Someone will give you $1,000 as is. I have too much on my plate and in my driveway. I'm considering letting 1 SD go and getting a newer VW TDI that only needs maintenance.

Moot point, however, I've yet to have the steering components checked at inspection, here in VA, use a different business.
I agree with Junkman, put it on craig's list, or here, someone will pick it up.

Must be the local area
I have used six or seven inspection places. They all check CV, tie rod boots, etc. I never said I had an issue with that.
I keep my vehicles in good condition, but with the farm, and big family I have 12 vehicles on the road, two parked but driveable, and two projects in the shop. I simply need to shed some vehicles. I also have a 93 300D, that I will part (still driveable). Thinking about using the engine in a 87 YJ that I was going to put a 240D engine in, but now may use the little turbo 5 cylinder with a manual. the little 4 cyl only makes 70-85 HP, while the 5 cyl is clean 125 HP. Parting vehicle makes good money, but is a pain to ship and work the parts. Craigslist may be the ticket. |

^ You have a Virginia address, I would think.
CV joints, never, tie rod boots, never. I also keep the cars in respectable shape. Have for decades. Have your inspections done here.
