W123 Gen-2 Seats?

When were they first offered? I am almost positive my '83 300TD does not have them, and I need to get another seat for the drivers as mine is broken in half.

TIA

I know the seat design was different between my '77 and my '83, so your '83 should have come with the new design. Whether they were swapped out for the old style at some point, I don't know.

There are three styles of seat

Very early w123s have a different style of seat than mid-production. I had an '83 and it had the second style. You have to look closely to notice the difference. I just realized that one of the front seats I just installed in my 1980 has an style #1 bottom cushion and a #2 upper.

1984 and 1985 have the late style seat, which has more defined contours and is more of a real "bucket" seat -- immensely more comfortable for anyone with an iffy lower back, like me. I had one in my w116 300sd as well.

Give me a bit and I will post a pic. Yes, the seat base split in half at the front. I reinforced it with metal from MS spring reinforcement kit, but it is still broke. It is so bad that the back of the seat, even with it being installed with a screw, shimmies it's way off the seat in a couple of months.

Thank you, Zacharias, that is exactly what I need. I am not comfortable in these, and I would love to find a late seat at least for the drivers side.

Shipping might be a bear, I'm in CO. 81402. I'll be in touch.

Any news on the valve. Adjustment wrenches?

US model seats:

1977 to 1979 - Gen 1 "pointed" headrests, chrome net frame

1980 to 1982 - Gen 2 "standard" headrest + bulky sections, chrome net frame

1983 to 1985 - Gen 3 "standard" headrest + slim profile sections (more knee room in rear seat), plastic net frame

(1984-1985 had slightly different seats than 1983 - different seat belt buckle and latch, more pleats)

Seat belt buckles and latches are also dependent on generation.
