1996 e300d abs caution light blinks car stops
Hi Guys back again. solved the problem with air in lines runs good. Now took a test drive 10 min into the drive abs brake light came on then yellow caution light blinked lost power car went dead . Pulled to side of road .Starter cranked but no start. Lights in side off car out. Waited 5 mins power came back car started. Drove 5 sec same thing happened again. I replaced k-40 relay about 5 yrs ago because of power lost. I forgot, red and green light started blinking starter turned over fast. This time waited 10 min car started no warning lights got home with no more problems. Do the k-40 relays go out that soon? The warning lights have been going on and off for about a month but this is the first time the car shut down, Where should I start? Thanks for your help Greg

By "red and green light started blinking" do you mean the lights that are part of the alarm system? in the rear view mirror? If so, that could mean a problem in the alarm, because in later 1996 W210s the alarm will prevent the car from starting (very early 1996 cars like mine do not have that "feature").

red and green blinking lights
Hi Guys Yes on the mirror. This didnt happen the first time it died but happened the second time. Is there any way to bypass the alarm system? Thanks

problem solved I think
Hi guys I removed the k-40 relay the 10 amp fuse was blown .Replaced it car running fine no warning lights no blinking light. Were can I take my old k-40 relay to be repaired so I can have a back up? Thanks again for your help Greg

If you are handy with a soldering iron the usual problem is cold solder joints.
Maybe JamesDean would be willing to take a look at it and add it to his library of photo essays.
