OM616 leaking coolant around injector?!
Hello this is the same car/engine mentioned elsewhere in my posts. I am trying to get it ready (enough) to sell. I have been running citric acid & distilled water through the coolant system to clean it (again, this is not my first time doing this) before adding the proper coolant mix again.
Review: I have replaced the head gasket (w/new head bolts), water pump, all rubber hoses and clamps, tstat and housing, pipe between head and block, front crank seal, alternator tightening screw, and done a valve adjustment after the head gasket replacement. I did not replace the injectors or injector shields after the head gasket refresh. I've driven it on two 5 hour round trip highway trips with the citric acid/distilled water mix. One with a tstat and one without. Temps hover around 60-70 unless it sits then they climb to 100ish. I noticed a leak coming from the injector closest to the firewall last week on my second long journey. I am confident, though not 100% confident, it is not diesel leaking. I wiped it off with my finger and it smells of the coolant/acid mix not diesel. Video here and/or here: So, what's up with this new issue?! I am just a shade tree mechanic, trying to get this OM616 and 4 speed box in good enough condition to sell on to the next person for their possibly dead Benz that needs a Euro spec OM616. I like to tinker...but am nearly to the end of myself with this one. The next step is the 605 5 speed engine swap mentioned here on PP and over on Benz World. Thanks!
