recent project pics, boost gauge and egr block off

i wanted to share some pics of a couple recent projects i finally got completed. i mounted the boost gauge inside the glove box with a piece of aluminum strapping fashioned into a bracket. i couldn't decide on a place to mount it that wouldn't look odd, now i can view it only when i, or my passenger, wants to.

i also completed the vacuum actuator swap by making an egr block off on the exhaust manifold with copper sheet. then i blocked off the egr with a peice of 16 gauge sheet steel, then drilled and tapped it for the pressure line for the new wastegate actuator. that pressure line is less than a foot.

Then at the direction of jeremy5848, (thanks btw) i removed the intake flap thingie and wired it open then removed it's vacuum actuator.

Nice diy install. I am inspired to make a block plate set myself.

Btw, What is meant by "Then at the direction of jeremy5848, (thanks btw) i removed the intake flap thingie and wired it open then removed it's vacuum actuator." and do you have any pics of the new wastegate actuator?

Thanks

if you are standing alongside the passenger fender looking down at the engine, on the left side of the charge pipe is the egr. on the right side in the same location is the vacuum flap, and it has it's own vacuum actuator controlled by the eds. it's purpose is to close off fresh air at certain rpms/loads and make the egr more effective.

if you take off the crossover pipe and look down towards the turbo, you will see it. it's just like a throttle valve. I removed the plate (valve) inside of it to cut down on the restriction of airflow.

having read many previous posts here, if you try to defeat the egr and vacuum flap, the eds knows and will deny vacuum to the wastegate actuator, and you will have 0 boost.

the only way to defeat these systems that I know of is to replace the vacuum actuator with a pressure one. there is a 40+ page thread on that very subject.

Wastegate actuator swap for OM602.962?

it's way easy, and well worth it. idle is much smoother, power is delivered more consistently and shifting is much smoother. and more mpg's
