Most Colossal Screw Up Since My Last One
Ok...So I finally got up the gumption to change the head gasket on my 1984 190D.
I got it all torn apart, cleaned the mating surfaces and put the new gasket on. In the process of cleaning the mating surface on the block I decided that I should rotate the engine a bit so the pistons were all recessed. I did this. This may have been the fatal error but I surely complicated it afterward. I didn't turn the engine back to TDC before installing the head. I realized after the fact that I should probably do that. The cam isn't on the car and obviously the timing chain is just own in the crank somewhere as well. Since I got the head bolted down there was nowhere for the compression to go as I rotated it and the chain was binding and even sounded like I head a nasty metal on metal sound in the process. Would I be right to assume this engine/injection pump is toast? |
