Where can I find a new seat belt retractor, or....?

My driver's side retractor is weak. I've looked around for just the retractor, but I can't find it. The whole seat belt assembly is $350, so I'm looking for just the retractor.

Or, is there a place that can fix these? I've done all the fixing on it that I can do.

Your other option is a used one from CL, E-Bay or start hitting the JY`s.

Have any PNP type yards?

There is www.row52.com it covers a bunch of PNP type yards across the country. Type in your Make, model, zip and # of miles of search you want to cover.
There are people that will pull a belt or other part under this row52. List what you want and someone will pull it. But you won`t know the condition of the part, or color etc...

If you get the belt and retractor, by whatever means, get the latch that you stick the clip into as well, AS A SET. For each of the 3 that I've changed, I've had to change the latch a well, because the new clip didn't fit the old latch.

IDK if you have a pretensioner system as well. I can only infer that that would mean more things to get right.

I'd say junk yard is your best bet. I just picked up a complete seat belt assembly for the drivers seat plus the B pillar cover for 75 bucks last weekend at a yard. I didn't get the latch that the clip fastens into because I checked that the clip would fit before I bought it but that could be a consideration as well.

I believe there's a You Tube video on how to get the snap back in the retractor. Pretty decent video. The seat belt retractor is way too different in a W123, e.g., 3 rivots, et cet., but on other models it looks pretty easy.

When we bought the 85 300D back in 97, the Drivers belt wouldn`t come out and or retract. Got tired of fighting it, and just bought a new one. Think at the time it was $200.00.

My thinking was, the drivers belt gets the most use, and it is a safety item.,
so didn`t want a used one.

The other belts don`t get the use, so a used one would probably be ok to use.

I did buy some rear belts because of the doors being slammed on them and broke the plastic.

If you buy used belts, be sure to wash them good. wash out others people sweat and dirt, Hand lotion and...what ever.
I pulled the belt all the way out, held it with a Cloths Pin, soaked just the belt in hot soapy water, and then rinsed it good., and let it air dry.

I don't want to get a used one

No sense in getting a used one. My car is now 24 years old. If I get one is 20 years old, it still probably get a be pretty worn out.
